NEW BRITAIN, PA - A man who robbed a convenience store with nothing more than swift hands was apparently too quick for his own good, police say. It took all of about 15 seconds for this thief to rob a Wawa food market. However, in his mad dash to the door, he dropped his wallet. "He took out his wallet and purchased a pack of gum, and when the clerk opened the drawer, he gave him a shove, took all the money and fled," said Detective Robert Scafiedi of the New Britain Township police. "He still had his wallet in his hands and must have dropped it while he was running for the door." In the wallet, police found the thief's state-issued ID card, a copy of his birth certificate and other identifying items.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Things definitely heated up in the kitchen for an Alabama couple after they tried to warm up a few aerosol paint cans in their oven. John and Ruby Barnes, from Huntsville, claimed they "we trying to make the paint come out of the can easier." The paint came out easier all right, followed by a ball of flames when they opened the oven door. Ruby Barnes received second-degree burns to 20 per cent of her body. Her husband suffered first and second-degree burns on his face, hands and arms. Both are recuperating in the burn unit of the hospital at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

THAILAND - A Thai doctor claims that a babies' mouth ulcers may be cured using cockroach feces. Dr Kanvee Viwatpanich, of the National Institute of Thai Traditional Medicine, has found references to insect-based remedies in ancient texts and has been advised by different healers on the topic. These "experts" told him to heat the poo, and rub it into the sores of new-born babies. Dr Viwatpanich truly believes that cockroaches have the most medicinal potential. He told reporters, "It was very distinctly used in the past, has survived for thousands of years and has some very good properties." [I just want to know how they collect the samples - with itty-bitty pooper scoopers?]

ROMANIA - Some people have pictures of their loved ones as screensavers while others have cute animal photos. But a boy at a Bucharest school would not settle for such ordinary pictures. In a clever, if not original stunt, the boy scanned his penis and used the picture on all of the school's computers. Officials threatened to set up an identity parade if the culprit does not 'stand up' and confess.

HUNGARY - If one were to open a new pub in the animal kingdom, and name it "The Monkey Bar, Johnny the chimp would certainly be a regular patron. The thirsty little chimp, along with his partner, Zsiga, both escaped from their cage after the lock had been removed from an unknown person. The feisty duo allegedly attacked a 60-year-old woman who tried to hinder their escape and later wrestled with a man who tried to grab them in Budapest. Fire officers were able to recapture Johnny by feeding him beers until he passed out. Zsiga was knocked out cold after running head on into a glass door. According to the chimps' trainer, Lajos Korosi, "They both have very sore heads and we are leaving them to take their bad tempers out on each other for a few days."
